Eileen Young

Clarinetist

Dr. Eileen Young performs as the Principal Bass Clarinetist in the Winston-Salem Symphony and as Principal Clarinetist with the Salisbury Symphony (NC). Eileen was the featured soloist in October 2009 with her performance of Persis Vehar’s City of Light Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra with the Salisbury Symphony; and in April 2013 with her performance of James David’s Auto ’66 Concerto for Clarinet with the Wake Forest University Wind Ensemble. She is a founding member of Elektra Winds and the Bolton Quintet.

Eileen is in her tenth year as Music Director of Salem Band, one of the oldest community bands in the nation, and also directs and serves as Clarinet Soloist with the Salem Swing Band, which performs regularly for concert series and swing dances. She earned the Doctor of Musical Arts and the Master of Music Degrees in Clarinet performance from UNC Greensboro where she was a winner in the University Concerto Competition; the Master of Music Degree in Saxophone from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts; and the Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education from Messiah University (PA) where she won the Second Annual Performance Competition.

Dr. Laura Stevens is the Lecturer of Flute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a member of the Carolina Wind Quintet, UNC’s longest continuously active faculty ensemble in the department’s history. She has served as the principal flutist of the Western Piedmont Symphony since 2002 and has been a member of the Salisbury Symphony since 2000.

Stevens was a featured guest artist with the Western Piedmont Symphony performing Carl Neilsen’s Concerto for Flute and Orchestra. She currently performs with Elektra Winds and was a founding member of the Relevents Wind Quintet who made their critically acclaimed debut tour through Southern Germany in April 2009. She also traveled to Venezuela, South America with the Archipelago Project to teach and perform through El Sistema — a publicly financed, voluntary sector music education program.

A native of Christiansburg, Virginia, Stevens received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Flute Performance at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where her research focused on the unearthing of an 18th century flute quartet by Joseph Aloys Schmittbauer located in the Moravian Music Foundation Archives. She received the Master of Music Degree from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and the Bachelor of Music Degree from the Salem College School of Music. Her teachers have included Debra Reuter-Pivetta, Philip Dunigan, Tadeu Coelho, Deborah Egekvist, Elizabeth Crone, and Deborah Kemper.

Anna Lampidis

Oboist

Originally from Detroit, Michigan, oboe and English hornist Anna Lampidis enjoys a diverse career as an orchestral player, chamber musician, soloist, clinician, educator and mentor. Known for her beautiful tone and expressiveness, her playing as been described as “impeccable”, “outstanding” and “breathtaking” in concert reviews by Classical Voice North Carolina. Anna serves as Principal Oboe of the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle and the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra and holds the position of oboe and English horn with the Greensboro Symphony. Her degrees include a DMA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and an MM from Yale University, where she was recipient of the Lucy G. Moses Fellowship. Her BM degree is from the University of Miami (Florida).

A passionate educator, Anna maintains a private studio, performs outreach concerts and is an active oboe and woodwind coach of chamber music and orchestral literature. She is a sought-after clinician for oboe workshops, double-reed days and has been an adjudicator for NC Governor’s School and GMTA. She has been an Oboe Instructor at the UNC-Greensboro Summer Music Camp for over 20 years and is on the faculty of the Chapel Hill Chamber Music Workshop.

With a passion and love for performing as soloist, Anna made her solo debut at the age of 15 years old. Since moving to North Carolina, she has appeared as soloist with the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, Chapel Hill Philharmonia, Salisbury Symphony, Carolina Philharmonic, North Carolina Symphony and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Symphony Orchestra. She has premiered works by composers such as Michael Colgrass and Bill Douglas and can be heard in recordings on the Albany, VoChor, Crescent Moon and Centaur Labels.
Dr. Lampidis serves as a member of the music faculty at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Wake Forest University, East Carolina University and Greensboro College. She is a founding member of ELEKTRA Winds and performs yearly with the Carolina Wind Quintet and Coastal Winds. She currently resides in Greensboro, North Carolina and remains a sought-after private teacher and free-lance oboist.

Amber Ferenz

Bassoonist

Amber Ferenz is a nonbinary bassoonist and composer. Inspired deeply by the magic and mystery of the natural world, she writes pieces that weave together melodies and healing songs given by Nature. Her most recent compositions include “Tales From the Grove” and “Unfinished Conversations” for bassoon and piano, “Wood, Water, and Roses: Women’s Medicine for Difficult Times” and “Yellow Poplar with Birdsong” for solo bassoon, and “Tall Tales” for bassoon quartet. “These Four Directions” was an official selection for performance at the 2022 Music By Women Festival in Columbus, Mississippi. It was commissioned by Winston-Salem based Elektra Winds in 2021, and is her first piece for wind quartet. TrevCo Music publishes her work.

Amber teaches bassoon at Wake Forest and Gardner-Webb Universities, is a founding member of Elektra Winds, and is second bassoonist with the Asheville Symphony. She is also the third/contra bassoonist for the Greensboro Symphony, a frequent sub with the Charlotte Symphony, and has been the Camp Coordinator for the Glickman-Popkin Bassoon Camp since 2007.
