Originally from Detroit, Michigan, oboe and English hornist Anna Lampidis enjoys a diverse career as an orchestral player, chamber musician, soloist, clinician, educator and mentor. Known for her beautiful tone and expressiveness, her playing as been described as “impeccable”, “outstanding” and “breathtaking” in concert reviews by Classical Voice North Carolina. Anna serves as Principal Oboe of the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle and the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra and holds the position of oboe and English horn with the Greensboro Symphony. Her degrees include a DMA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and an MM from Yale University, where she was recipient of the Lucy G. Moses Fellowship. Her BM degree is from the University of Miami (Florida).
A passionate educator, Anna maintains a private studio, performs outreach concerts and is an active oboe and woodwind coach of chamber music and orchestral literature. She is a sought-after clinician for oboe workshops, double-reed days and has been an adjudicator for NC Governor’s School and GMTA. She has been an Oboe Instructor at the UNC-Greensboro Summer Music Camp for over 20 years and is on the faculty of the Chapel Hill Chamber Music Workshop.
With a passion and love for performing as soloist, Anna made her solo debut at the age of 15 years old. Since moving to North Carolina, she has appeared as soloist with the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, Chapel Hill Philharmonia, Salisbury Symphony, Carolina Philharmonic, North Carolina Symphony and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Symphony Orchestra. She has premiered works by composers such as Michael Colgrass and Bill Douglas and can be heard in recordings on the Albany, VoChor, Crescent Moon and Centaur Labels.
Dr. Lampidis serves as a member of the music faculty at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Wake Forest University, East Carolina University and Greensboro College. She is a founding member of ELEKTRA Winds and performs yearly with the Carolina Wind Quintet and Coastal Winds. She currently resides in Greensboro, North Carolina and remains a sought-after private teacher and free-lance oboist.
